About the job

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Collections Manager who is passionate about managing arrears, protecting company capital, and maintaining positive relationships with our SME borrowers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SME debt recovery and credit control within a lending environment, specifically working with Personal Guarantees (PGs).

As an early hire in this pivotal role, you will help shape our collections framework, contributing directly to our ongoing stability and success. You will be responsible for executing the collections process and managing the recovery of overdue funds, ensuring we balance risk mitigation with a professional customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Arrears Management: Proactively manage the collections lifecycle for SME accounts, from early-stage delinquency through to recovery.

Negotiation & Recovery: Contact borrowers to negotiate repayment plans and settlements, specifically leveraging Personal Guarantees (PGs) to secure recoveries.

Process Development: Work with the Head of Risk to develop and refine Lenkie’s collections policies and procedures, ensuring they align with market best practices.

Portfolio Monitoring: Monitor and manage the risk associated with our SME lending portfolio, providing data-driven insights on delinquency trends.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the sales, product, and account management teams to ensure seamless management of distressed accounts.

Reporting: Support the Head of Operations to prepare detailed reports on arrears, recovery rates, and portfolio health for senior management.

Continuous Improvement: Proactively contribute to improving collections tools and strategies to support Lenkie’s growth while safeguarding against loss.

Qualifications/Required Skills

Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in SME lending collections or credit control within a lender.

Security Knowledge: Significant experience in managing collections involving Personal Guarantees (PGs).

Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse financial statements and borrower behaviour to make informed decisions on repayment viability.

Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the UK SME lending market and the legal framework surrounding B2B debt recovery.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to conduct firm yet professional negotiations with business owners.

Problem-Solving: Curiosity and the ability to make sound judgment calls in high-pressure situations while balancing recovery speed with brand reputation.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in recovery assessments and portfolio analytics.



Nice to Have:

Debenture Expertise: Previous experience dealing with the enforcement of Debentures.

Tech Proficiency: Additional benefit if familiar with analytical programming languages such as Python, SQL, R, etc.
