Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and analytical Senior Credit Risk Analyst who is passionate about assessing financial risk, building a world-class underwriting process, and actively involved in portfolio monitoring to ensure the ongoing health and performance of credit exposures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in credit risk management and a deep understanding of the SME lending landscape. As an early hire in this pivotal role, you will shape our credit risk framework, contributing directly to our growth and success.

You will be responsible for executing and evolving the credit evaluation process and ongoing credit risk management and reporting, ensuring we are able to manage credit risk while delivering a great experience to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Evaluation: Conduct thorough analysis of financial data to assess creditworthiness and determine the suitability of potential borrowers. Provide clear recommendations for loan approvals or rejections.

Credit Policy Development: Develop and refine Lenkie’s credit risk policies and procedures, ensuring they align with market best practices and utilise relevant data sources.

Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage the risk associated with our SME lending portfolio. Use data-driven insights to mitigate risk and adjust credit strategies as needed.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the sales, product, and account management teams to ensure seamless onboarding of clients and ongoing monitoring of credit risk.

Market Analysis: Stay updated on the latest trends in the SME finance landscape to enhance our risk models and ensure we remain competitive.

Continuous Improvement: Proactively contribute to improving credit risk management tools and strategies to support Lenkie’s growth while safeguarding against risk.

Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on credit risk exposures and present recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.

Qualifications/Required Skills

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit risk related roles, ideally within the fintech, SME finance or financial services industry. As part of this, 3 years minimum experience of directly underwriting SMEs is essential.

Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse financial statements, credit reports, and market trends to make informed decisions.

Portfolio Management and Analysis: Ability to build and manage a credit portfolio management framework that scales with our loan book, covering the full lifecycle of SME lending.

Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of B2B lending and the UK SME lending market and its associated risks.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in credit evaluations, risk assessments, and portfolio analytics.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to present findings clearly and collaborate effectively across departments and external stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Curiosity and the ability to make sound judgement calls in fast-paced, high-pressure situations while balancing risk and reward.

Tech Proficiency: Comfortable using credit risk assessment tools, open-banking data, and financial modelling software. Ability to manipulate data is essential. Additional benefit if familiar with analytical programming languages such as Python, SQL, R, etc.
